| 10 | 10 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 65(b), Article XVI, Texas Constitution, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | is amended to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (b) If any of the officers named herein shall announce their |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | candidacy, or shall in fact become a candidate, in any General, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Special or Primary Election, for any office of profit or trust under |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the laws of this State or the United States other than the office |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | then held or an office of the same county elected by the voters of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the entire county, at any time when the unexpired term of the office |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | then held shall exceed one year and 30 days, such announcement or |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | such candidacy shall constitute an automatic resignation of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | office then held, and the vacancy thereby created shall be filled |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | pursuant to law in the same manner as other vacancies for such |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | office are filled. |

| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing certain |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | elected county or district officeholders to become candidates for a |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | countywide office of the same county without automatically |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | resigning from the office already being held." |
