55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment providing that a person
77 holding a statewide elective office automatically vacates office on
88 announcing a candidacy or becoming a candidate for another elective
99 office before December 1 of the last full odd-numbered year of the
1010 person's term of office.
1111 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1313 adding Section 65-a to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 65-a. If a person who holds a statewide elective office
1515 announces the person's candidacy, or in fact becomes a candidate,
1616 in any general, special, or primary election for any office of
1717 profit or trust under the laws of this State or the United States
1818 other than the office then held at any time before December 1 of the
1919 last full odd-numbered year before the term of office then held
2020 expires, that announcement or candidacy constitutes an automatic
2121 resignation from the office then held.
2222 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2323 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015.
2424 The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the
2525 proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing that a person
2626 holding a statewide elective office automatically vacates office on
2727 announcing a candidacy or becoming a candidate for another elective
2828 office before December 1 of the last full odd-numbered year of the
2929 person's term of office."
