5	5	A JOINT RESOLUTION
6	6	proposing a constitutional amendment providing that a person
7	7	holding a statewide elective office automatically vacates office on
8	8	announcing a candidacy or becoming a candidate for another elective
9	9	office before December 1 of the last full odd-numbered year of the
10	10	person's term of office.
11	11	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
12	12	SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by
13	13	adding Section 65-a to read as follows:
14	14	Sec. 65-a. If a person who holds a statewide elective office
15	15	announces the person's candidacy, or in fact becomes a candidate,
16	16	in any general, special, or primary election for any office of
17	17	profit or trust under the laws of this State or the United States
18	18	other than the office then held at any time before December 1 of the
19	19	last full odd-numbered year before the term of office then held
20	20	expires, that announcement or candidacy constitutes an automatic
21	21	resignation from the office then held.
22	22	SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
23	23	submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015.
24	24	The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the
25	25	proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing that a person
26	26	holding a statewide elective office automatically vacates office on
27	27	announcing a candidacy or becoming a candidate for another elective
28	28	office before December 1 of the last full odd-numbered year of the
29	29	person's term of office."
