11 | 11 | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by | |
13 | 13 | adding Section 1-s to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | Sec. 1-s. The legislature by general law may exempt from ad | |
15 | 15 | valorem taxation the total assessed value of the residence | |
16 | 16 | homestead of a veteran or current member of the armed services of | |
17 | 17 | the United States who is a participant in a veterans court program | |
18 | 18 | during the period in which the veteran or current service member | |
19 | 19 | participates in the program. The legislature by general law may | |
20 | 20 | provide additional eligibility requirements for the exemption. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | |
22 | 22 | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015. | |
23 | 23 | The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | |
24 | 24 | proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the | |
25 | 25 | legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation the total assessed | |
26 | 26 | value of the residence homestead of a veteran or current member of | |
27 | 27 | the armed services of the United States while the veteran or current | |
28 | 28 | service member participates in a veterans court program." |
