55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature
77 to exempt from ad valorem taxation the total assessed value of the
88 residence homestead of a veteran or current member of the armed
99 services of the United States while the veteran or current service
1010 member participates in a veterans court program.
1111 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1313 adding Section 1-s to read as follows:
1414 Sec. 1-s. The legislature by general law may exempt from ad
1515 valorem taxation the total assessed value of the residence
1616 homestead of a veteran or current member of the armed services of
1717 the United States who is a participant in a veterans court program
1818 during the period in which the veteran or current service member
1919 participates in the program. The legislature by general law may
2020 provide additional eligibility requirements for the exemption.
2121 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2222 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015.
2323 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
2424 proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the
2525 legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation the total assessed
2626 value of the residence homestead of a veteran or current member of
2727 the armed services of the United States while the veteran or current
2828 service member participates in a veterans court program."
