| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, In December 2014, businessman Fred Loya won the |

| 8 | 9 | | of the Christmas spirit, he donated his $50,000 in prize money to 10 |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The Great Christmas Light Fight is a friendly |

| 11 | 12 | | competition for the best holiday lights in the nation, and Mr. Loya |

| 12 | 13 | | triumphed over a number of other remarkable displays with his |

| 13 | 14 | | annual synchronized sound and light display, which features 450,000 |

| 14 | 15 | | lights and draws some 70,000 visitors each year; and |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Born in Santa Ana, California, Mr. Loya developed |

| 16 | 17 | | his strong work ethic as a boy working in his parents' grocery store |

| 17 | 18 | | and tortilla factory; after graduating from Long Beach State |

| 18 | 19 | | College, he served in Germany for several years with the U.S. Army, |

| 19 | 20 | | and he went on to manage his family's cattle ranch in Mexico; in |

| 20 | 21 | | 1974, he became a Farmers Insurance agent in El Paso, and today the |

| 21 | 22 | | Loya Insurance Group is a multimillion dollar business with 526 |

| 22 | 23 | | agencies in Texas and across the nation; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, For the past decade, Fred Loya has delighted the |

| 24 | 25 | | people of El Paso with the spectacular Christmas lights at his home, |

| 25 | 26 | | and the recognition he won on national television was made even more |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | special by the gracious donation he made to benefit his community; |

| 28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 29 | 30 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Fred Loya on winning the 2014 Great |
