45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, For 20 years, Aztlan Academy of Ethnic Heritage of
67 Texas has greatly benefited the Arlington-Grand Prairie area
78 through its many vital community programs and commitment to Mexican
89 culture and traditions; and
910 WHEREAS, Affiliated with Aztlán Academy-San José in
1011 California, this nonprofit organization offers classes in a number
1112 of disciplines of Mexican folk art, including dance, music, and
1213 theater; these programs celebrate the richness and beauty of
1314 Mexican culture while equipping students with the confidence and
1415 skills necessary to reach their full potential; the academy also
1516 presents a variety of concerts, exhibits, and workshops that
1617 showcase the creative work of both students and professional
1718 artists; and
1819 WHEREAS, One of Aztlan Academy's most popular programs is
1920 Nuestra Navidad, an annual presentation of the Christmas story
2021 through the music and dance of the Tarascan, Huastecan, Jarocho,
2122 and Jaliscience cultures of Mexico; the stage decoration is
2223 inspired by poinsettias, which represent the color and light of the
2324 holiday season; this celebration has become a favorite Christmas
2425 tradition for performers, many of whom have participated since a
2526 young age, as well as for local residents; and
2627 WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of artistic director
2728 Esther Torres Ghio, Aztlan Academy works closely with the Arlington
2829 Independent School District, teaching classes at Starrett
2930 Elementary, Barnett Junior High, and James Bowie High Schools; and
3031 WHEREAS, Since its establishment, Aztlan Academy of Texas has
3132 served as an important community resource, and it has enriched the
3233 lives of countless Texans through its cultural and artistic
3334 programs; now, therefore, be it
3435 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3536 Legislature hereby honor Aztlan Academy of Ethnic Heritage of Texas
3637 for its immeasurable contributions to the Arlington and Grand
3738 Prairie area and extend to all those associated with the
3839 organization best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4041 prepared for Aztlan Academy as an expression of high regard by the
4142 Texas House of Representatives.
