10 | 11 | | California, this nonprofit organization offers classes in a number |

11 | 12 | | of disciplines of Mexican folk art, including dance, music, and |

12 | 13 | | theater; these programs celebrate the richness and beauty of |

13 | 14 | | Mexican culture while equipping students with the confidence and |
---|
14 | 15 | | skills necessary to reach their full potential; the academy also |
---|
15 | 16 | | presents a variety of concerts, exhibits, and workshops that |

16 | 17 | | showcase the creative work of both students and professional |

18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, One of Aztlan Academy's most popular programs is |

19 | 20 | | Nuestra Navidad, an annual presentation of the Christmas story |

20 | 21 | | through the music and dance of the Tarascan, Huastecan, Jarocho, |

21 | 22 | | and Jaliscience cultures of Mexico; the stage decoration is |

22 | 23 | | inspired by poinsettias, which represent the color and light of the |

23 | 24 | | holiday season; this celebration has become a favorite Christmas |

24 | 25 | | tradition for performers, many of whom have participated since a |

25 | 26 | | young age, as well as for local residents; and |

26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of artistic director |

27 | 28 | | Esther Torres Ghio, Aztlan Academy works closely with the Arlington |

28 | 29 | | Independent School District, teaching classes at Starrett |

29 | 30 | | Elementary, Barnett Junior High, and James Bowie High Schools; and |

30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Since its establishment, Aztlan Academy of Texas has |

31 | 32 | | served as an important community resource, and it has enriched the |

32 | 33 | | lives of countless Texans through its cultural and artistic |

34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby honor Aztlan Academy of Ethnic Heritage of Texas |
