5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of San Augustine are mourning the loss |

6 | 7 | | of Woodrow Wayne "Woody" Harrison, who passed away on December 14, |

7 | 8 | | 2014, at the age of 72; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Houston on November 19, 1942, to Woodrow and |
---|
9 | 10 | | Lucille Harrison, Woody Harrison attended St. Thomas High School |
---|
10 | 11 | | and went on to earn a bachelor of science degree and a double |
---|
11 | 12 | | master's degree in management and public administration; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Harrison served his country for more than four |
---|
13 | 14 | | decades, first as a military officer and then as a private |
---|
14 | 15 | | contractor; a graduate of the Command and General Staff College of |
---|
15 | 16 | | the U.S. Army, this patriotic Texan flew more than 400 combat |
---|
16 | 17 | | missions in Vietnam as an army helicopter pilot; after leaving the |
---|
17 | 18 | | military, he became an engineering services contractor, working on |
---|
18 | 19 | | various projects for the Pentagon; he received a number of |
---|
19 | 20 | | commendations for his work with the Department of Defense, |
---|
20 | 21 | | including the prestigious Legion of Merit award; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Mr. Harrison moved back |
---|
22 | 23 | | to Texas and became a prominent civic leader, assuming a number of |
---|
23 | 24 | | leadership positions in the community; these roles included |
---|
24 | 25 | | president of the chamber of commerce, post commander of the |
---|
25 | 26 | | Veterans of Foreign Wars, president of the Main Street Advisory |
---|
26 | 27 | | Board, and county chairman of the Republican Party; he was also an |
---|
27 | 28 | | active member of the San Augustine Historical Society; in |
---|
28 | 29 | | recognition of his outstanding service to his fellow citizens, he |
---|
29 | 30 | | was named the 2012 Community Impact Volunteer of the Year for East |
---|
30 | 31 | | Texas; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, In his spare time, Mr. Harrison pursued his passion |
---|
32 | 33 | | for the performing arts, entertaining audiences at community |
---|
33 | 34 | | theaters and at military venues around the world; he was a talented |
---|
34 | 35 | | guitar player and vocalist and performed with a number of musical |
---|
35 | 36 | | groups, from his high school rock-and-roll band to barbershop |
---|
36 | 37 | | quartets; and |
---|
37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, While Woody Harrison is deeply missed by all those |
---|
38 | 39 | | who were privileged to know him, his legacy lives on in the |
---|
39 | 40 | | community he was proud to call home; now, therefore, be it |

40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

41 | 42 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Woodrow Wayne |

42 | 43 | | Harrison and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: |

43 | 44 | | to his wife, Glenda Harrison; to his son, Houston W. W. Harrison; to |

44 | 45 | | his daughter, Divini Creech; to his granddaughter, Misty Creech; to |

45 | 46 | | his brother, Rick Harrison, and his wife, Debbie; to his |

46 | 47 | | brother-in-law, Robert Ramey, and his wife, Sheila; and to his |
