45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The citizens of San Augustine are mourning the loss
67 of Woodrow Wayne "Woody" Harrison, who passed away on December 14,
78 2014, at the age of 72; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Houston on November 19, 1942, to Woodrow and
910 Lucille Harrison, Woody Harrison attended St. Thomas High School
1011 and went on to earn a bachelor of science degree and a double
1112 master's degree in management and public administration; and
1213 WHEREAS, Mr. Harrison served his country for more than four
1314 decades, first as a military officer and then as a private
1415 contractor; a graduate of the Command and General Staff College of
1516 the U.S. Army, this patriotic Texan flew more than 400 combat
1617 missions in Vietnam as an army helicopter pilot; after leaving the
1718 military, he became an engineering services contractor, working on
1819 various projects for the Pentagon; he received a number of
1920 commendations for his work with the Department of Defense,
2021 including the prestigious Legion of Merit award; and
2122 WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Mr. Harrison moved back
2223 to Texas and became a prominent civic leader, assuming a number of
2324 leadership positions in the community; these roles included
2425 president of the chamber of commerce, post commander of the
2526 Veterans of Foreign Wars, president of the Main Street Advisory
2627 Board, and county chairman of the Republican Party; he was also an
2728 active member of the San Augustine Historical Society; in
2829 recognition of his outstanding service to his fellow citizens, he
2930 was named the 2012 Community Impact Volunteer of the Year for East
3031 Texas; and
3132 WHEREAS, In his spare time, Mr. Harrison pursued his passion
3233 for the performing arts, entertaining audiences at community
3334 theaters and at military venues around the world; he was a talented
3435 guitar player and vocalist and performed with a number of musical
3536 groups, from his high school rock-and-roll band to barbershop
3637 quartets; and
3738 WHEREAS, While Woody Harrison is deeply missed by all those
3839 who were privileged to know him, his legacy lives on in the
3940 community he was proud to call home; now, therefore, be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4142 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Woodrow Wayne
4243 Harrison and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
4344 to his wife, Glenda Harrison; to his son, Houston W. W. Harrison; to
4445 his daughter, Divini Creech; to his granddaughter, Misty Creech; to
4546 his brother, Rick Harrison, and his wife, Debbie; to his
4647 brother-in-law, Robert Ramey, and his wife, Sheila; and to his
4748 other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5051 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Woodrow
5152 Wayne Harrison.
