| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Pasadena Chief of Police Michael W. Thaler has |

| 6 | 7 | | rendered outstanding service in behalf of residents in Pasadena and |

| 7 | 8 | | Houston; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Chief Thaler graduated from South Houston High |

| 9 | 10 | | School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in criminal justice |

| 10 | 11 | | from the University of Houston-Downtown and a master's degree in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | psychology from Sam Houston State University; he began his career |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | in law enforcement when he joined the Houston Police Department in |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | 1976; and |

| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, During his time with HPD, Chief Thaler gained |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | extensive experience in a wide range of areas, including crime |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | analysis, internal investigations, and emergency communications; |

| 17 | 18 | | by the end of his tenure, he was executive assistant chief of the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | department, had spent more than 14 years as a member of the HPD |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | command staff, and had received the department's Manager of the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Year Award as well as several Chief of Police commendations; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Chief Thaler was appointed to head the Pasadena |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Police Department in 2009; in his capacity as police chief, he is |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | responsible for more than 270 officers and 85 civilian employees, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | and he works to ensure high quality police support for the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | community; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Michael W. Thaler has dedicated himself to the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | safety and well-being of his fellow citizens throughout his career |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | in law enforcement, and he has earned widespread respect for his |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | exceptional leadership skills and commitment to excellence; now, |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby recognize Chief Michael W. Thaler for his |
