5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The board of trustees of the Arlington Independent |

6 | 7 | | School District has been chosen as the 2014 Outstanding School |

7 | 8 | | Board by the Texas Association of School Administrators; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Created in 1971, the TASA School Board Awards |

9 | 10 | | Program recognizes boards that have demonstrated exceptional |

10 | 11 | | dedication and rendered ethical service to Texas schoolchildren; |

11 | 12 | | the winning board is selected from five finalists based on its |
---|
12 | 13 | | commitment to student achievement and well-being; and |

13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Working closely with parents, educational |
---|
14 | 15 | | professionals, and other community members, the AISD school board |
---|
15 | 16 | | has devoted itself to establishing an innovative and rigorous |

16 | 17 | | learning system that empowers the district's approximately 65,000 |
---|
17 | 18 | | students to become successful, responsible citizens; and |

18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The officers of the board are Bowie Hogg, president; |

19 | 20 | | Jamie Sullins, vice president; Dr. Aaron Reich, secretary; and John |

20 | 21 | | Hibbs, assistant secretary; the other members are Gloria Peña, |

21 | 22 | | Peter Baron, and Kecia Mays; the trustees coordinate with AISD |

22 | 23 | | superintendent Marcelo Cavazos to create an effective and |

23 | 24 | | harmonious administration; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Through their clear-sighted vision of excellence |

25 | 26 | | and their thoughtful and decisive leadership style, these |

26 | 27 | | individuals have ensured the highest standards for Arlington |

27 | 28 | | schools and are truly deserving of praise for their efforts in |

28 | 29 | | behalf of their district; now, therefore, be it |

29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby honor the Arlington Independent School District |

31 | 32 | | Board of Trustees for being named the 2014 Outstanding School Board |
