| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Licensed athletic trainers have long provided |

| 7 | 8 | | physical activities, and National Athletic Training Month in March |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | 2015 provides a fitting opportunity to honor these notable health |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, In 1971, Texas became the first state to enact a law |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | requiring athletic trainers to meet specific standards of |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | education, competency, and ethics, and today all such practitioners |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | working in Texas are licensed and regulated by the Advisory Board of |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Athletic Trainers; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Athletic trainers offer an extensive range of |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | services, from preventing injuries before games and sporting events |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | to recognizing and treating injuries after they occur, under the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | direction of a physician; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Certified athletic trainers work in a variety of |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | settings, and secondary schools, colleges and universities, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | professional and amateur athletic organizations, clinics and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | hospitals, and corporations and industries all benefit from their |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | expertise; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The Texas State Athletic Trainers' Association |

| 25 | 26 | | (TSATA), which was established in 2001, endeavors to promote, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | enhance, and advance the athletic training profession in the Lone |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Star State; the organization offers a number of valuable services |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | to its members and strives to be the voice of thousands of licensed |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | athletic trainers statewide; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, TSATA works with the Office of Acquired Brain Injury |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | (OABI) and the Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council (TBIAC) to |

| 32 | 33 | | provide brain injury education, awareness, prevention, and service |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | referral and coordination; and |

| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, The men and women who work as athletic trainers play |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | a positive role in the lives of countless Texas residents, and they |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | indeed merit special commendation for their efforts and |

| 37 | 38 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 2015 as National Athletic |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | Training Month in Texas and extend thanks and best wishes to the |
|---|
| 41 | 42 | | state's athletic trainers. |
