45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Licensed athletic trainers have long provided
67 quality health care to individuals involved in sports and other
78 physical activities, and National Athletic Training Month in March
89 2015 provides a fitting opportunity to honor these notable health
910 care professionals; and
1011 WHEREAS, In 1971, Texas became the first state to enact a law
1112 requiring athletic trainers to meet specific standards of
1213 education, competency, and ethics, and today all such practitioners
1314 working in Texas are licensed and regulated by the Advisory Board of
1415 Athletic Trainers; and
1516 WHEREAS, Athletic trainers offer an extensive range of
1617 services, from preventing injuries before games and sporting events
1718 to recognizing and treating injuries after they occur, under the
1819 direction of a physician; and
1920 WHEREAS, Certified athletic trainers work in a variety of
2021 settings, and secondary schools, colleges and universities,
2122 professional and amateur athletic organizations, clinics and
2223 hospitals, and corporations and industries all benefit from their
2324 expertise; and
2425 WHEREAS, The Texas State Athletic Trainers' Association
2526 (TSATA), which was established in 2001, endeavors to promote,
2627 enhance, and advance the athletic training profession in the Lone
2728 Star State; the organization offers a number of valuable services
2829 to its members and strives to be the voice of thousands of licensed
2930 athletic trainers statewide; and
3031 WHEREAS, TSATA works with the Office of Acquired Brain Injury
3132 (OABI) and the Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council (TBIAC) to
3233 provide brain injury education, awareness, prevention, and service
3334 referral and coordination; and
3435 WHEREAS, The men and women who work as athletic trainers play
3536 a positive role in the lives of countless Texas residents, and they
3637 indeed merit special commendation for their efforts and
3738 achievements; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby recognize March 2015 as National Athletic
4041 Training Month in Texas and extend thanks and best wishes to the
4142 state's athletic trainers.
