| 8 | 9 | | Distinguished Alumna and Presidential Alumna Awards; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, These two accolades are presented each year by the |

| 10 | 11 | | College of Nursing at Georgia Regents University to honor |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | professional excellence and contributions to the profession; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The founding dean of the College of Nursing and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Health Sciences at Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi, |

| 14 | 15 | | Dr. Hamilton earned her nursing degree from the Medical College of |

| 15 | 16 | | Georgia at Georgia Regents University in 1960; she went on to earn a |

| 16 | 17 | | master's degree in psychology at Texas A&M University--Kingsville |

| 17 | 18 | | in 1974 and a Ph.D. in nursing at Texas Woman's University in 1992; |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, This distinguished educator has worked with nursing |

| 20 | 21 | | students in Corpus Christi since 1964, when she joined the faculty |

| 21 | 22 | | of the James R. Dougherty School of Nursing at Spohn Hospital; she |

| 22 | 23 | | went on to teach for 25 years at Del Mar College, and in 1993, she |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | joined Texas A&M--Corpus Christi as a professor of nursing; she |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | became the school's director of the College of Nursing and Health |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Sciences in 2002, and since 2004, she has served as dean of the |

| 26 | 27 | | college; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Hamilton has been active in such professional |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | organizations as the American Nurses Association, the Texas Nurses |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Association, and the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, and she has |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | found time to give back to her community as a board member of the |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Corpus Christi Medical Center, the Coastal Bend Wellness |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Foundation, and the Regional Health Awareness Board; and |

| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, The skill and commitment that Dr. Mary Jane Hamilton |

| 34 | 35 | | has brought to her many responsibilities have greatly benefited the |

| 35 | 36 | | people of Corpus Christi, and she is indeed deserving of these |

| 36 | 37 | | prestigious awards from her alma mater; now, therefore, be it |
