5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Marva T. Dixon of Grand Prairie is being |

6 | 7 | | inducted into the African American Education Archives and History |

7 | 8 | | Program Hall of Fame on April 18, 2015; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Engaged in the field of education for more than four |
---|
9 | 10 | | decades, Dr. Dixon retired as executive director of innovation and |
---|
10 | 11 | | support for the Grand Prairie Independent School District in 2011; |
---|
11 | 12 | | she began her career teaching elementary school in Durham, North |
---|
12 | 13 | | Carolina, and joined Grand Prairie ISD as an eighth-grade math |
---|
13 | 14 | | teacher in 1981; subsequently, she served as assistant principal of |
---|
14 | 15 | | Bonham Elementary School and as principal of Johnson and Dalworth |
---|
15 | 16 | | Elementary Schools; for eight years, she led general curriculum |
---|
16 | 17 | | services in the special education department, and she was then |
---|
17 | 18 | | named director of innovation and support; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Dixon has also taught courses in educational |
---|
19 | 20 | | leadership and special programs at Texas Christian University; she |
---|
20 | 21 | | has served on national, state, and regional commissions and task |
---|
21 | 22 | | forces, and she is the author of the guidebook The Power of the 5 Ps: |
---|
22 | 23 | | What Every Educator Needs to Know; named 1981 Teacher of the Year |
---|
23 | 24 | | for Jackson Middle School, she has received numerous other |
---|
24 | 25 | | accolades over the years, including the UTA Educational Leadership |
---|
25 | 26 | | Dream Conceiver Award and multiple honors from the Grand Prairie |
---|
26 | 27 | | branch of the NAACP; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, This accomplished educator earned bachelor's |
---|
28 | 29 | | degrees from North Carolina Central University and the University |
---|
29 | 30 | | of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master's degree from NCCU, and a |
---|
30 | 31 | | doctorate in curriculum and instruction and educational leadership |
---|
31 | 32 | | from the University of North Texas; today, she provides extensive |
---|
32 | 33 | | support to schools and educators as the chief executive officer of |
---|
33 | 34 | | Dixon and Associates Consulting Services; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Marva |
---|
35 | 36 | | Dixon has shown an unwavering commitment to meeting the educational |
---|
36 | 37 | | needs of every student, and she may indeed take pride in her myriad |
---|
37 | 38 | | accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Marva T. Dixon on her |
---|
40 | 41 | | induction into the African American Education Archives and History |
---|
41 | 42 | | Program Hall of Fame and extend to her sincere best wishes for |

42 | 43 | | continued success; and, be it further |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
