45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Dr. Marva T. Dixon of Grand Prairie is being
67 inducted into the African American Education Archives and History
78 Program Hall of Fame on April 18, 2015; and
89 WHEREAS, Engaged in the field of education for more than four
910 decades, Dr. Dixon retired as executive director of innovation and
1011 support for the Grand Prairie Independent School District in 2011;
1112 she began her career teaching elementary school in Durham, North
1213 Carolina, and joined Grand Prairie ISD as an eighth-grade math
1314 teacher in 1981; subsequently, she served as assistant principal of
1415 Bonham Elementary School and as principal of Johnson and Dalworth
1516 Elementary Schools; for eight years, she led general curriculum
1617 services in the special education department, and she was then
1718 named director of innovation and support; and
1819 WHEREAS, Dr. Dixon has also taught courses in educational
1920 leadership and special programs at Texas Christian University; she
2021 has served on national, state, and regional commissions and task
2122 forces, and she is the author of the guidebook The Power of the 5 Ps:
2223 What Every Educator Needs to Know; named 1981 Teacher of the Year
2324 for Jackson Middle School, she has received numerous other
2425 accolades over the years, including the UTA Educational Leadership
2526 Dream Conceiver Award and multiple honors from the Grand Prairie
2627 branch of the NAACP; and
2728 WHEREAS, This accomplished educator earned bachelor's
2829 degrees from North Carolina Central University and the University
2930 of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master's degree from NCCU, and a
3031 doctorate in curriculum and instruction and educational leadership
3132 from the University of North Texas; today, she provides extensive
3233 support to schools and educators as the chief executive officer of
3334 Dixon and Associates Consulting Services; and
3435 WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Marva
3536 Dixon has shown an unwavering commitment to meeting the educational
3637 needs of every student, and she may indeed take pride in her myriad
3738 accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Marva T. Dixon on her
4041 induction into the African American Education Archives and History
4142 Program Hall of Fame and extend to her sincere best wishes for
4243 continued success; and, be it further
4344 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4445 prepared for Dr. Dixon as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4546 House of Representatives.
