6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Many proud residents of Mansfield are visiting |

7 | 7 | | Austin to celebrate the distinctive attributes and achievements of |

8 | 8 | | their community during Mansfield Day at the State Capitol; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Located in the Cross Timbers country of North |
---|
10 | 10 | | Central Texas, south of Arlington, the settlement was first |
---|
11 | 11 | | established by pioneers in the 1840s; in the late 1850s, R. S. Man |
---|
12 | 12 | | and Julian Feild built a gristmill in the area, at the crossroads |
---|
13 | 13 | | that later became the center of the town, which was named for the |
---|
14 | 14 | | two men; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Feild soon added a general store across the |
---|
16 | 16 | | street from the mill and became the town's postmaster in 1860; |
---|
17 | 17 | | during the Civil War, the Man and Feild gristmill supplied meal and |
---|
18 | 18 | | flour to fighting soldiers, and it later did the same for those at |
---|
19 | 19 | | United States Army outposts and Indian reservations in Texas and |
---|
20 | 20 | | New Mexico; though incorporated in 1909, the town remained a |
---|
21 | 21 | | farming community until the suburban expansion of the Dallas/Fort |
---|
22 | 22 | | Worth area brought many new residents; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Today, the city's more than 60,000 residents can |
---|
24 | 24 | | enjoy 240 acres of parks and a quality of life reflected in the |
---|
25 | 25 | | town's inclusion on Money magazine's 2012 list of the top places to |
---|
26 | 26 | | live in the United States; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mansfield will be led in 2015 by the members of its |
---|
28 | 28 | | city council, including Mayor David Cook and Mayor Pro Tempore |

29 | 29 | | Larry Broseh, as well as Brent Newsom, Stephen Lindsey, Darryl |

30 | 30 | | Haynes, Cory Hoffman, and Wendy Burgess; also committed to the |
