| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |

| 6 | 7 | | a close when Violet E. Hames Law of Tye passed away on August 1, |

| 7 | 8 | | 2014, at the age of 83; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The former Violet Hames was born in Belleview, |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Florida, on January 22, 1931, to Winters B. and Mary Eleanor Hames; |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | she married Kennon Law on April 16, 1950, and the couple shared in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the joy of raising four children, Kennon, Thomas, Carrie, and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Kindra; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Tye, Mrs. Law served her |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | community as city secretary, city councilwoman, and mayor during a |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | time when few women held political office; she felt strongly that |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | affordable housing should be made available to low-income families |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | and that local youth should be encouraged to participate in |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | politics; she worked for the improvement and beautification of Tye, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | and for many years the family also owned and operated a business |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | there; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Law was a faithful member of Tye Baptist |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Church; in her leisure time, she enjoyed tending roses in her |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | garden, bird-watching, fishing, traveling, and writing poetry, and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | she was also an ardent fan of the Texas Rangers; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to her family and dedicated to her |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | community, Violet Law will be deeply missed, and the generosity, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | love, and pioneering spirit she demonstrated throughout her life |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | will forever inspire all those who had the good fortune to know her; |

| 29 | 30 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Violet E. Hames Law |

| 33 | 34 | | sons, Kennon Law Jr. and his wife, Janet, and Thomas M. Law and his |

| 34 | 35 | | wife, Sherreta; to her daughters, Carrie Copeland and her husband, |

| 35 | 36 | | David, and Kindra Smith and her husband, Kenneth; to her brothers, |

| 36 | 37 | | Donald, Gene, Dean, and Peek Hames; to her sister, Mary Ann |
