| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, K9s4COPS has provided generous |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Most police departments and similar agencies |

| 9 | 10 | | operate under tight budget constraints, and trained police dogs can |

| 10 | 11 | | cost as much as $15,000; Houston resident Kristi Hoss Schiller |

| 11 | 12 | | founded K9s4COPS in 2010 to donate K9s to law enforcement, and the |

| 12 | 13 | | following year, the group gave four dogs to the Harris County |

| 13 | 14 | | Sheriff's Office; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The group also works to raise awareness of the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | accomplishments of K9s and their handlers, and Ms. Schiller |

| 16 | 17 | | expanded the initiative in 2013 with the establishment of K9s4KIDS, |

| 17 | 18 | | which offers K9s to school districts and college campuses; and |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, This noteworthy organization has provided state |

| 19 | 20 | | agencies with 100 trained dogs over the past four years, and the K9s |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | have helped capture hundreds of criminals and intercept more than |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | $70 million in contraband, including guns, explosives, narcotics, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | and cash; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Through its notable endeavors, K9s4COPS has helped |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | many law enforcement agencies more effectively serve and protect |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | the citizens of Texas; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 26, 2015, as K9s4COPS Day at the |
