45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Denise
67 Rosalyn Davis Hopkins of Liberty Hill, who passed away on January
78 30, 2015, at the age of 63; and
89 WHEREAS, The daughter of Joe and Hattie Davis, the former
910 Denise Davis was born in New Orleans on November 5, 1951; she grew
1011 up in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School and Hill
1112 College; joined in matrimony to Terry L. Hopkins, an officer in the
1213 United States Army, she became the devoted mother of four treasured
1314 children, Tiffany, Adam, Benjamin, and Elizabeth; she shared a
1415 fulfilling relationship of 30 years with Lieutenant Colonel Hopkins
1516 before his untimely passing in 2002; fortunate enough to find love a
1617 second time, she married Hal Harkins; and
1718 WHEREAS, Ms. Hopkins taught in public schools in Hillsboro,
1819 Mount Pleasant, and Red Oak before joining the faculty of Jo Ann
1920 Ford Elementary in the Georgetown Independent School District as a
2021 math and science teacher; proud of her adopted home, she loved to
2122 share her knowledge of the state's heritage, and she played a key
2223 role in the creation of the Texas History Wax Museum at the school;
2324 she also delighted in taking her fourth-graders on trips to the
2425 Bullock Texas State History Museum and the State Capitol; during
2526 her 11-year tenure, she motivated others with her strong school
2627 spirit, and she was an especially enthusiastic participant in
2728 campus dress-up days; and
2829 WHEREAS, Engaged in her community, Ms. Hopkins served as
2930 secretary of the Aggie Moms Club of Williamson County, and she was a
3031 valued member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Georgetown;
3132 she performed in its bell choir and served the congregation in other
3233 capacities as well; in her free time, she enjoyed skiing with her
3334 family, but relegated to the bunny slope after 35 years, she
3435 eventually decided she preferred leisurely weekends with
3536 Mr. Harkins at bed-and-breakfast inns; she was also known for both
3637 her inability to drive past a "sale" sign and her staunch opposition
3738 to paying full price for shoes; and
3839 WHEREAS, Denise Hopkins made a positive difference in the
3940 lives of innumerable youngsters through her commitment to
4041 education, and those who were privileged to know her will forever
4142 treasure their memories of her bright smile, her wonderful sense of
4243 humor, and her kind and caring ways; now, therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4445 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Denise Rosalyn
4546 Davis Hopkins and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her
4647 family: to her children, Tiffany Dawn Hopkins, Adam Bradford Davis
4748 Hopkins, Benjamin John Davis Hopkins, and Elizabeth Anne Hopkins;
4849 to her husband, Hal Harkins; and to her other relatives and many
4950 friends; and, be it further
5051 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5152 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House
5253 of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Denise
5354 Hopkins.
