| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The San Antonio Music Teachers Association is |

| 6 | 7 | | marking its 100th anniversary in 2015; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded on March 24, 1915, by a group of 19 |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | educators, the association has been affiliated since its inception |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | with the Music Teachers National Association and the Texas Music |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Teachers Association; its membership had grown to about 150 by |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | 1919, when it published its first yearbook and directory; today, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | its members serve at all levels of the education system, and they |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | perform for churches, synagogues, and the general public; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The organization has sponsored numerous activities |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | for teachers and students, including lecture series, judged |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | auditions, performances, and competitions; in 1988, group members |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | raised money to establish the San Antonio Music Teachers |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Association Education Fund, which has awarded 36 scholarships to |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | students over the years and has also provided study grants for |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | teachers; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, For the past century, members of the San Antonio |

| 22 | 23 | | Music Teachers Association have worked tirelessly to elevate |

| 23 | 24 | | standards of education and musicianship, and their endeavors have |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | heightened appreciation for the ways in which the arts improve the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | quality of life in a community; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 31, 2015, as San Antonio Music |

| 28 | 29 | | Teachers Association Centennial Day and extend to the members |

| 29 | 30 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
