5	6		WHEREAS, Libby Averyt of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times has
6	7		been promoted to vice president regional publisher of the Journal
7	8		Media Group, and this occasion is a fitting opportunity to
8	9		celebrate her outstanding three-decade career in journalism; and
9	10		WHEREAS, After writing for her high school newspaper in
10	11		Houston, Ms. Averyt earned her bachelor's degree in journalism in
11	12		1986 at The University of Texas at Austin, where she won a national
12		-	college reportin
13		-	g award for her work on the Daily Texan; later in
	13	+	college reporting award for her work on the Daily Texan; later in
14	14		life, she continued her education at Texas A&M University-Corpus
15	15		Christi, earning a master's degree in communication in 2012; and
16	16		WHEREAS, Ms. Averyt joined the Corpus Christi Caller-Times
17	17		in 1986 as a night police reporter, and over the years she has risen
18	18		steadily through the ranks, becoming the paper's managing editor in
19	19		2000 and its editor in 2003; she went on to oversee the paper's
20	20		digital efforts as vice president and online general manager and
21	21		then served as vice president for advertising; in January 2014, she
22	22		became the paper's publisher and chief revenue officer; and
23	23		WHEREAS, That same year, Journal Communications and
24	24		E. W. Scripps, the parent company of the Caller-Times, announced
25	25		their intention to merge their broadcast operations and newspaper
26	26		holdings into a new company, the Journal Media Group; in her new
27	27		role, Ms. Averyt will be one of four vice president regional
28	28		publishers of the group, with responsibility for the Caller-Times
29	29		as well as operations in Abilene, San Angelo, and Wichita Falls; and
30	30		WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Averyt has enjoyed the
31	31		love and support of her husband, Charles Kaffie Jr., and their five
32	32		children, Grace, Avery, William, Lauren, and Charles; and
33	33		WHEREAS, Ms. Averyt's dedication, professionalism, and
34	34		integrity have greatly benefited the Corpus Christi Caller-Times
35	35		and earned her the respect and admiration of her fellow
36	36		journalists, and as she takes on the challenges and opportunities
37	37		of her new position, she may indeed reflect with pride on her record
38	38		of accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
39	39		RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
40	40		Legislature hereby congratulate Libby Averyt on her promotion to
41	41		vice president regional publisher of the Journal Media Group and
42	42		extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
43	43		happiness; and, be it further
44	44		RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
45	45		prepared for Ms. Averyt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
46	46		House of Representatives.
