5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Cecil Earnestine Anderson of Dallas on February 15, |

7 | 8 | | 2015, at the age of 106; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in 1908 in Cameron, Cecil Anderson attended |
---|
9 | 10 | | Paul Quinn College after high school, completed her bachelor's |
---|
10 | 11 | | degree at Huston-Tillotson College, received her master's degree |
---|
11 | 12 | | from Prairie View A&M University, and pursued postgraduate studies |
---|
12 | 13 | | at Texas A&M University; in 2013 she was awarded an honorary |
---|
13 | 14 | | doctorate of humane letters by Paul Quinn College and was |
---|
14 | 15 | | recognized as the school's oldest living graduate; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Anderson enjoyed a long and rewarding career in |
---|
16 | 17 | | education, teaching in the Cameron Independent School District for |
---|
17 | 18 | | more than four decades until her retirement in 1975; upon leaving |
---|
18 | 19 | | the classroom, Mrs. Anderson moved to the Dallas area and became |
---|
19 | 20 | | actively involved with a number of worthwhile community |
---|
20 | 21 | | organizations; she was a longtime precinct chair in South Dallas, |
---|
21 | 22 | | and she frequently volunteered her time and talents to the March of |
---|
22 | 23 | | Dimes and the Boy Scouts of America; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A lifelong member of the African Methodist Episcopal |
---|
24 | 25 | | Church, Mrs. Anderson was a valued congregant at Smith Chapel AME |
---|
25 | 26 | | Church in Dallas for many years; she held a number of important |
---|
26 | 27 | | leadership roles within the church, including steward, missionary, |
---|
27 | 28 | | and Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher; in her leisure |
---|
28 | 29 | | time, she took great pleasure in traveling, cooking, and visiting |
---|
29 | 30 | | with family and friends; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Anderson was blessed with the love and support |
---|
31 | 32 | | of her husband, the late Luther Anderson, and she was the proud |
---|
32 | 33 | | mother of two children, Jacqueline and Kelly; with the passing |
---|
33 | 34 | | years, she experienced the joy of seeing her family grow to include |
---|
34 | 35 | | three additional generations; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, A source of wisdom and inspiration, Cecil Anderson |
---|
36 | 37 | | made a positive difference in the lives of innumerable people as an |
---|
37 | 38 | | educator, civic leader, and role model, and all those who were |
---|
38 | 39 | | fortunate enough to know her will forever treasure their memories |
---|
39 | 40 | | of her kindness and devotion; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

41 | 42 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Cecil Earnestine |

42 | 43 | | Anderson and extend sincere condolences to her many loved ones; |
