45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Cecil Earnestine Anderson of Dallas on February 15,
78 2015, at the age of 106; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in 1908 in Cameron, Cecil Anderson attended
910 Paul Quinn College after high school, completed her bachelor's
1011 degree at Huston-Tillotson College, received her master's degree
1112 from Prairie View A&M University, and pursued postgraduate studies
1213 at Texas A&M University; in 2013 she was awarded an honorary
1314 doctorate of humane letters by Paul Quinn College and was
1415 recognized as the school's oldest living graduate; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mrs. Anderson enjoyed a long and rewarding career in
1617 education, teaching in the Cameron Independent School District for
1718 more than four decades until her retirement in 1975; upon leaving
1819 the classroom, Mrs. Anderson moved to the Dallas area and became
1920 actively involved with a number of worthwhile community
2021 organizations; she was a longtime precinct chair in South Dallas,
2122 and she frequently volunteered her time and talents to the March of
2223 Dimes and the Boy Scouts of America; and
2324 WHEREAS, A lifelong member of the African Methodist Episcopal
2425 Church, Mrs. Anderson was a valued congregant at Smith Chapel AME
2526 Church in Dallas for many years; she held a number of important
2627 leadership roles within the church, including steward, missionary,
2728 and Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher; in her leisure
2829 time, she took great pleasure in traveling, cooking, and visiting
2930 with family and friends; and
3031 WHEREAS, Mrs. Anderson was blessed with the love and support
3132 of her husband, the late Luther Anderson, and she was the proud
3233 mother of two children, Jacqueline and Kelly; with the passing
3334 years, she experienced the joy of seeing her family grow to include
3435 three additional generations; and
3536 WHEREAS, A source of wisdom and inspiration, Cecil Anderson
3637 made a positive difference in the lives of innumerable people as an
3738 educator, civic leader, and role model, and all those who were
3839 fortunate enough to know her will forever treasure their memories
3940 of her kindness and devotion; now, therefore, be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4142 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Cecil Earnestine
4243 Anderson and extend sincere condolences to her many loved ones;
4344 and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4647 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cecil
4748 Anderson.
