| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of Barbara Vera Canales of Freer on March 27, 2014, at the |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Canales was born in Rios on November 3, 1934, |

| 9 | 10 | | to Ernesto and Braulia Vera; following her marriage to Jose Canales |

| 10 | 11 | | in 1954, Mrs. Canales devoted herself to her home and to their |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | family, which grew to include three children, Ricardo, Carolina, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | and Corina; in later years, she also took great pride in her six |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | grandchildren, Amanda, Arnoldo, Elizabeth, Ruben, Debbie, and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Darlene; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, After her children graduated from high school, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Mrs. Canales completed her GED; she wanted to earn a bachelor's |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | degree as well, but she suffered a stroke while attending college; |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | subsequently, she remained a strong proponent of education, and she |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | played an important role in civic life, working for the election and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | reelection of her husband during his 32 years as justice of the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | peace; a natural campaigner, she won over countless people with her |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | grace, warm smile, and kind and friendly nature; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Barbara Canales brought joy to innumerable people, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | and although she is deeply missed, she will forever hold a special |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | place in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her; |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Barbara V. Canales |
