45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Millions of Americans from across the country joined
67 together to celebrate the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970,
78 rallying around the idea of protecting the environment for future
89 generations; and
910 WHEREAS, This year marks the 45th anniversary of Earth Day,
1011 and this special occasion provides a welcome opportunity for all
1112 Texans to reflect on the diverse landscapes and vibrant beauty of
1213 our state and to renew our commitment to preserving its water, air,
1314 land, and wildlife; from the arid desert landscape of West Texas and
1415 the hills, rivers, and lakes of Central Texas to the rich forests of
1516 East Texas, plains of the Panhandle, and unique habitat of the Gulf
1617 Coast, the Lone Star State is indeed an ecological treasure; and
1718 WHEREAS, To best honor the environmental legacy of past
1819 generations of Texans and maintain this natural wealth for
1920 posterity, it is vital for citizens of the Lone Star State to be
2021 mindful custodians of our shared resources; and
2122 WHEREAS, One particularly important objective of Earth Day is
2223 to support environmental literacy by promoting science,
2324 technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects in the classroom;
2425 such training will help to ensure that young Texans have the tools
2526 they need to understand the challenges facing the planet and
2627 creatively work toward solutions; and
2728 WHEREAS, By promoting sustainable consumption, adopting
2829 measures to conserve energy and water, and laying a foundation for a
2930 successful clean energy economy, we can embrace our role as
3031 stewards and work together for the benefit of our great state; now,
3132 therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby commemorate the 45th anniversary of Earth Day on
3435 April 22, 2015, and encourage all Texans to defend and maintain our
3536 precious resources for future generations to enjoy.
