No. 1291 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Stephanie Simpson has been named a 2015 Woman of the Year candidate by the South Central Texas Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; and WHEREAS, Each year, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society sponsors a 10-week Man and Woman of the Year campaign to raise funds for research; candidates employ their leadership skills and resources to collect donations in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors, and the volunteer who achieves the highest "vote" total earns the prestigious title of Man or Woman of the Year; in 2014 alone, the South Central Texas Chapter raised more than $550,000 in its campaign to benefit this worthy cause; and WHEREAS, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has supported groundbreaking research since 1949; moreover, it provides information and support services for patients and their families, and it works to improve access to the latest individual therapy options and clinical trials; and WHEREAS, Through her endeavors as a candidate in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Woman of the Year program, Stephanie Simpson is furthering the organization's important mission and helping to raise public awareness of the need to find a cure for blood cancers; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Stephanie Simpson on her selection as a 2015 Woman of the Year candidate by the South Central Texas Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and commend her for her dedication to the organization's worthy goals; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Simpson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
