| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, In November 1962, H. A. "Lindy" Slone and his wife, |

| 10 | 11 | | Ola Mae, founded Slone Lumber Company shortly after moving to Alta |

| 11 | 12 | | Loma, a community that was eventually annexed by the City of Santa |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Fe; the business sold items ranging from lumber and nails to |

| 13 | 14 | | plumbing and electrical tools; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Slones incorporated the operation in 1964 and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | included their son, Adonn Slone, and daughter, Linda Sue Inman, as |

| 16 | 17 | | shareholders; the company continued to thrive through the able |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | leadership of the family's second and third generations, with Adonn |

| 18 | 19 | | Slone becoming president in 1988 and the founders' grandson, Gregg |

| 19 | 20 | | Slone, taking the helm in 2006; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, While managing the needs of the business, members of |

| 21 | 22 | | the Slone family have been active in their churches and community; |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | in addition to volunteering in the Lions Club and supporting |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | organizations like the local volunteer fire department, Lindy Slone |

| 24 | 25 | | was among the charter members of the Alta Loma Merchants |

| 25 | 26 | | Association, which grew into what is now the Santa Fe Chamber of |

| 26 | 27 | | Commerce; in January 2015, the chamber recognized Slone Lumber and |

| 27 | 28 | | the Slone family with a special award for their more than 50 years |

| 28 | 29 | | of service to the chamber and city at large; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, This tradition of community service was carried on |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | by Adonn Slone, who once led the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce as |

| 31 | 32 | | president, served on the City of Santa Fe Planning and Zoning Board, |

| 32 | 33 | | and was a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight; Gregg Slone has been a |

| 33 | 34 | | coach and promoter of youth sports, and he partners with the |

| 34 | 35 | | nationwide organization Operation Finally Home to supply materials |

| 35 | 36 | | for building new homes for veterans with disabilities; and |

| 36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Slone Lumber was sold to a national company in June |

| 37 | 38 | | 2014, but Gregg Slone remains general manager, and the local |

| 38 | 39 | | workforce of approximately 50 employees continues with the |

|---|
| 40 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Over the last half-century, members of the Slone |

| 41 | 42 | | family have made immeasurable contributions to the life and |

| 42 | 43 | | development of their community, and they may take special pride in |

| 43 | 44 | | their achievements; now, therefore, be it |

| 44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
