| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Those Texans who give freely of their time and |

| 7 | 8 | | place through their actions, and Elizabeth Graham Hill of Houston, |

| 8 | 9 | | who passed away on June 1, 2014, was indeed one such person; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born in Olney on July 12, 1924, to Roy Jewel and Ruby |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Andrews Graham, Elizabeth Ann Graham grew up on the family ranch in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Anarene; after graduating from Olney High School, where she was |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | named Most Popular Girl and Band Sweetheart as well as the state |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | champion in declamation, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Missouri, and earned a place on the school's Dean's List; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Bitsy Graham, as she was known to friends, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | subsequently transferred to The University of Texas at Austin to |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | study social science, and it was there that she met her future |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | husband, John Hill; Mr. Hill spent many years in public office, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | serving Texas as secretary of state, attorney general, and chief |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | justice of the state supreme court, and Mrs. Hill unfailingly |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | supported her husband throughout his career; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The couple shared more than six rewarding decades |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | together before Mr. Hill's passing in 2007; over the years, they |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | were blessed with a family that grew to include 3 children, Melinda, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | John, and Martha, as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Hill devoted much time and energy to community |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | service, assuming leadership roles in such organizations as the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Blue Bird Circle and the Settlement Club; a valued member of |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | St. Luke's United Methodist Church, she hosted the first meetings |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | of the Young Life ministry in her home in the mid-1960s, and she |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | completed training as a Stephen Minister in her 80s; above all, she |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | treasured the volunteer work she did as a mentor to inmates through |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | the InnerChange Freedom Initiative; and |

| 35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Possessed of grace, compassion, and a wonderful |

| 36 | 37 | | sense of humor, Elizabeth Hill remained engaged in the world |

| 37 | 38 | | throughout her life and found great joy and inspiration in helping |
