45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
67 memories of Frank Steve Manitzas of San Antonio, who died on July
78 18, 2014, at the age of 80; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Greek immigrants, Frank Manitzas was born
910 in San Angelo on May 12, 1934, to Steve and Helen Leondaridou
1011 Manitzas; he earned a degree from The University of Texas and went
1112 on to join the U.S. Army; and
1213 WHEREAS, During his military service at Fort Sam Houston in
1314 San Antonio, Mr. Manitzas met and fell in love with Mary Ellen
1415 Saunders, and they shared nearly six decades of marriage; with the
1516 passing years, their family grew to include four children, Pam,
1617 Debbie, Steve, and Tom, as well as six grandchildren; and
1718 WHEREAS, Mr. Manitzas received his juris doctorate from The
1819 University of Texas; licensed in 1959, he worked for a time with the
1920 National Labor Relations Board before entering private practice in
2021 1966; he specialized in representing management in labor and
2122 employment law cases, and he served as chair of the Labor and
2223 Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Texas; he also took part
2324 in the pilot program that established the Texas Board of Legal
2425 Specialization and served on the board's Labor Law Advisory
2526 Commission; passionately committed to the law, he continued to
2627 practice until a month before his death; and
2728 WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Mr. Manitzas
2829 found time to pursue his interest in photography, recording the
2930 milestones of his family and friends in pictures; he shared his love
3031 of poetry with his children and grandchildren, teaching them poems
3132 by Robert Frost and Carl Sandburg; he also loved animals, and his
3233 farm in Comfort was home to many cats, dogs, horses, alpacas,
3334 donkeys, and chickens; and
3435 WHEREAS, A true Texas gentleman, Frank Manitzas was deeply
3536 devoted to his family, his profession, and his country, and the
3637 wisdom, integrity, and generosity with which he lived his life will
3738 forever inspire all who had the good fortune to know him; now,
3839 therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4041 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frank Steve
4142 Manitzas and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
4243 family: to his wife, Mary Ellen Manitzas; to his children and their
4344 spouses, Pam Uhr and Stan McElroy, Debra and Phillip Trueman, Steve
4445 Manitzas, and Thomas and Marsha Manitzas; to his grandchildren,
4546 Marshall, Carson, and Hunter Uhr, Tyler and Elliott Trueman, and
4647 Caitlin Manitzas; to his sister, Frances Tefas, and her husband,
4748 Steve; to his nephew, Steve Tefas, and his wife, Rebecca; to his
4849 niece, Stephanie Snedden, and her husband, Ted; to his extended
4950 family members Sylvia and Gonzalo Barbosa and their family; to his
5051 longtime friend, George Tamez; and to his other friends and
5152 relatives; and, be it further
5253 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5354 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5455 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frank
5556 Manitzas.
