5	6		WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
6	7		memories of Frank Steve Manitzas of San Antonio, who died on July
7	8		18, 2014, at the age of 80; and
8	9		WHEREAS, The son of Greek immigrants, Frank Manitzas was born
9	10		in San Angelo on May 12, 1934, to Steve and Helen Leondaridou
10	11		Manitzas; he earned a degree from The University of Texas and went
11	12		on to join the U.S. Army; and
12	13		WHEREAS, During his military service at Fort Sam Houston in
13	14		San Antonio, Mr. Manitzas met and fell in love with Mary Ellen
14	15		Saunders, and they shared nearly six decades of marriage; with the
15	16		passing years, their family grew to include four children, Pam,
16	17		Debbie, Steve, and Tom, as well as six grandchildren; and
17	18		WHEREAS, Mr. Manitzas received his juris doctorate from The
18	19		University of Texas; licensed in 1959, he worked for a time with the
19	20		National Labor Relations Board before entering private practice in
20	21		1966; he specialized in representing management in labor and
21	22		employment law cases, and he served as chair of the Labor and
22	23		Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Texas; he also took part
23	24		in the pilot program that established the Texas Board of Legal
24	25		Specialization and served on the board's Labor Law Advisory
25	26		Commission; passionately committed to the law, he continued to
26	27		practice until a month before his death; and
27	28		WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Mr. Manitzas
28	29		found time to pursue his interest in photography, recording the
29	30		milestones of his family and friends in pictures; he shared his love
30	31		of poetry with his children and grandchildren, teaching them poems
31	32		by Robert Frost and Carl Sandburg; he also loved animals, and his
32	33		farm in Comfort was home to many cats, dogs, horses, alpacas,
33	34		donkeys, and chickens; and
34	35		WHEREAS, A true Texas gentleman, Frank Manitzas was deeply
35	36		devoted to his family, his profession, and his country, and the
36	37		wisdom, integrity, and generosity with which he lived his life will
37	38		forever inspire all who had the good fortune to know him; now,
38	39		therefore, be it
39	40		RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
40	41		Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Frank Steve
41	42		Manitzas and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
42	43		family: to his wife, Mary Ellen Manitzas; to his children and their
43	44		spouses, Pam Uhr and Stan McElroy, Debra and Phillip Trueman, Steve
44	45		Manitzas, and Thomas and Marsha Manitzas; to his grandchildren,
45	46		Marshall, Carson, and Hunter Uhr, Tyler and Elliott Trueman, and
46	47		Caitlin Manitzas; to his sister, Frances Tefas, and her husband,
47	48		Steve; to his nephew, Steve Tefas, and his wife, Rebecca; to his
48	49		niece, Stephanie Snedden, and her husband, Ted; to his extended
49	50		family members Sylvia and Gonzalo Barbosa and their family; to his
50	51		longtime friend, George Tamez; and to his other friends and
51	52		relatives; and, be it further
52	53		RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
53	54		prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
54	55		Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frank
55	56		Manitzas.
