No. 1311 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories of Eliseo Garcia Navarro of San Antonio, who passed away on August 1, 2014, at the age of 89; and WHEREAS, Eliseo Navarro was born on March 5, 1925, in Asherton to Aurelio and Maria Navarro; he graduated from Asherton High School and then answered his nation's call to duty, serving in the European theater during World War II; after his discharge from the military, he enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin and earned his bachelor's degree; he later graduated with a master's degree in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University and studied for his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to serving others, Mr. Navarro was employed as a truancy officer and probation officer in Texas and Illinois before embarking on a successful career as an educator that included positions at Loyola University, UT Austin, and the University of Michigan; even after retiring from higher education, he continued to mentor young people by working as a teacher at Emma Fry Elementary School in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoyed the love and support of his wife, the former Dora Elia Jimenez Saenz, who preceded him in death; the couple raised four children, Ricardo, Maria Teresa, Diana, and Carlos, and with the passing years the family grew to include six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Eliseo Navarro will be deeply missed, but the generosity and commitment with which he lived his life will forever inspire all those who had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Eliseo Garcia Navarro and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his children, Ricardo, Diana, and Carlos; to his sister, Maria Perez; to his grandchildren, Cesar, Gabriel, and Vanessa Morales and Alejandro, Liliana, and Dora Navarro; to his great-grandchildren, Anjali and Ananda Navarro; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eliseo Garcia Navarro.
