| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories |

| 6 | 7 | | of Eliseo Garcia Navarro of San Antonio, who passed away on August |

| 7 | 8 | | 1, 2014, at the age of 89; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Eliseo Navarro was born on March 5, 1925, in |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Asherton to Aurelio and Maria Navarro; he graduated from Asherton |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | High School and then answered his nation's call to duty, serving in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the European theater during World War II; after his discharge from |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | the military, he enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | earned his bachelor's degree; he later graduated with a master's |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | degree in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | studied for his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to serving others, Mr. Navarro was |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | employed as a truancy officer and probation officer in Texas and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Illinois before embarking on a successful career as an educator |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | that included positions at Loyola University, UT Austin, and the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | University of Michigan; even after retiring from higher education, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | he continued to mentor young people by working as a teacher at Emma |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Fry Elementary School in San Antonio; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoyed the love and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | support of his wife, the former Dora Elia Jimenez Saenz, who |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | preceded him in death; the couple raised four children, Ricardo, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Maria Teresa, Diana, and Carlos, and with the passing years the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | family grew to include six grandchildren and two |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Eliseo Navarro will be deeply missed, but the |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | generosity and commitment with which he lived his life will forever |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | inspire all those who had the good fortune to know him; now, |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Eliseo Garcia |
