45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
67 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the friends and loved
78 ones of Harry Ben Adams III of San Antonio, who passed away on
89 August 7, 2014, at the age of 70; and
910 WHEREAS, The son of Harry Ben Adams II and Dorothy Lyons
1011 Adams, Mr. Adams was born on August 12, 1943, in San Antonio; after
1112 graduating from Edison High School, he attended San Antonio College
1213 and St. Mary's University, earning a degree from the university's
1314 school of law; and
1415 WHEREAS, Licensed to practice law in 1967, Mr. Adams began
1516 his career in legal aid services, and he helped to take a landmark
1617 case before the United States Supreme Court that eventually
1718 overturned the Texas law denying the right to paternal support for
1819 children born out of wedlock; he later established a law firm with
1920 his friends while teaching real estate law courses at night; and
2021 WHEREAS, Mr. Adams continued to develop his expertise over
2122 the years, specializing in consumer, real estate, and family law;
2223 he went on to create an independent firm in Universal City, where
2324 his strong reputation among municipal leaders won him the position
2425 of city attorney; he additionally served as the staff attorney for
2526 the economic development corporations of Hollywood Park and
2627 Windcrest and as an attorney for business magnate Red McCombs, with
2728 whom he shared a close friendship; and
2829 WHEREAS, Harry Adams's commitment to his community and
2930 profession was surpassed only by his devotion to his family; he
3031 enjoyed a rewarding marriage of nearly five decades with his wife,
3132 the former Beverly Ball, and he took great pride in his children,
3233 Terra and Harry, and in his seven grandchildren; passionate about
3334 travel, Mr. Adams ventured with his wife to destinations as
3435 far-flung as Africa, Holland, Jerusalem, and Hawaii, and when at
3536 home, he enjoyed preparing gourmet dishes for friends and family; a
3637 man of devout faith, he was also a valued member of Community Bible
3738 Church; and
3839 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Harry Adams
3940 will long remember his strength of character and generosity of
4041 spirit, and they will forever hold him close in their hearts; now,
4142 therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Harry Ben Adams III
4445 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
4546 wife, Beverly Ball Adams; to his children, Terra Hynes and her
4647 husband, Jack, and Harry Ben Adams IV and his fiancée, Charisse
4748 Scott; to his brother, Richard Adams, and his wife, Cathy; to his
4849 grandchildren, Ricky, Ben, Samuel, Julia, Faith, Channing, and
4950 Cate; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
5051 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5152 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5253 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Harry Ben
5354 Adams III.
