| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1972, Lone Star College, then known |

| 9 | 10 | | as North Harris County College, initially served residents of the |

| 10 | 11 | | Aldine, Humble, and Spring Independent School Districts; starting |

| 11 | 12 | | out with 16 staff members and an enrollment of 613, it has since |

| 12 | 13 | | expanded to become the largest higher education institution in the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Houston area, teaching 95,000 pupils at its six colleges and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | numerous centers; it encompasses a region of more than 1,400 square |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | miles and draws students from 11 school districts, including New |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Caney, Tomball, Conroe, Willis, Splendora, Klein, |

| 17 | 18 | | Cypress-Fairbanks, and Magnolia; and |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the |

| 19 | 20 | | Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, this notable system |

| 20 | 21 | | of higher learning provides an affordable, quality education to |

| 21 | 22 | | area residents, allowing them to earn associate's degrees, |

| 23 | 24 | | to transfer to four-year colleges; furthermore, Lone Star College |

| 24 | 25 | | offers dual-credit classes to accelerate college completion for |

| 25 | 26 | | more than 8,000 area high school students as well as courses for |

| 26 | 27 | | local youths and people age 50 and older through its Discovery |
|---|

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Under the expert guidance of Chancellor Stephen C. |

| 29 | 30 | | Head, the institution has been nationally recognized as a Top 10 |

| 31 | 32 | | it also is leading the Texas Reverse Transfer Initiative and the |

| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, For more than four decades, Lone Star College has |

| 35 | 36 | | devoted itself to giving students in the Houston area the best |

| 36 | 37 | | educational opportunities possible, and in so doing, it has |

| 37 | 38 | | equipped generations of Texans with the knowledge and skills |
|---|

| 39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
