45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A coalition of civic-minded Texans is gathering in
67 Austin on March 23, 2015, to discuss transportation policy on
78 Toll-Free Texas Day at the State Capitol; and
89 WHEREAS, Combining their dedicated efforts, the members of
910 three associations are advocating for the construction of new roads
1011 that will not require drivers to pay tolls; and
1112 WHEREAS, Texans Uniting for Reform and Freedom is a nonprofit
1213 organization committed to educating the public about the tolling of
1314 roads, the implications of comprehensive development agreements,
1415 and the use of eminent domain; in years past, TURF helped stop the
1516 proposed Trans-Texas Corridor and was instrumental in securing a
1617 moratorium on public-private partnership road contracts; and
1718 WHEREAS, Eagle Forum, founded by Phyllis Schlafly, has been
1819 at the forefront of the pro-family movement since 1972; its
1920 endeavors have garnered substantial local and national media
2021 coverage, and they have been recognized by presidential
2122 administrations; the organization promotes individual liberty,
2223 respect for family integrity, public and private virtue, and
2324 private enterprise; and
2425 WHEREAS, One of the largest constitutional conservative
2526 citizen organizations in Texas, Grassroots America-We the People
2627 supports limited government, personal responsibility,
2728 good citizenship, traditional family values, and the free market
2829 system; it works closely with state and national policy groups and
2930 think tanks, and it is networked with more than 300 conservative
3031 groups across the country; and
3132 WHEREAS, The continued prosperity of the Lone Star State
3233 depends on an effective transportation system, and concerned
3334 citizens have a vital role to play in the discussions surrounding
3435 this matter; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby recognize March 23, 2015, as Toll-Free Texas Day
3738 at the State Capitol and commend all those involved for their civic
3839 engagement.
