| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, For more than 125 years, the United Way system has |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | been raising funds to share with local relief agencies in a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | cooperative effort to improve the well-being of community |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | residents, and the 2015 anniversary of the founding of this |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | organization provides a welcome opportunity to honor its |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | achievements; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Since 1887, United Way has partnered with businesses |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | around the country to increase public awareness and to assist with a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | host of pressing community needs, including education, income, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | health, 2-1-1 information and referral, and other topics; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, United Way annually mobilizes thousands of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | volunteers, and its offices have collectively reinvested hundreds |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of millions of dollars in charitable donations back into the local |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | communities they serve; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Home to 88 United Way affiliates, the Lone Star |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | State has greatly benefited from the spirit of charity and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | volunteerism demonstrated by those involved with the operation; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, United Ways are helping to strengthen communities |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | across the state and the nation, and it is indeed a pleasure to join |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | in honoring the significant contributions the organization has made |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to the greater good; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 15, 2015, as United Way Day |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | at the State Capitol and express sincere appreciation to the United |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Way staff, volunteers, donors, and supporters for their important |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | work; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | prepared for the United Ways of Texas as an expression of high |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
