No. 1399 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Assistant principal Blake Coleman of Anthony Middle School in Cypress demonstrated great presence of mind in an emergency when he saved the life of a student on February 13, 2015; and WHEREAS, During lunch hour, sixth-grader Grayson Barger began to choke on a piece of apple in the school cafeteria; as his friends attempted to help him, a custodian called out to Mr. Coleman, the staff member closest to Grayson, and he rushed to the student's side; and WHEREAS, Recalling a poster that detailed the Heimlich maneuver, Mr. Coleman applied three compressions to the boy's abdomen, forcing the obstruction out of his throat and allowing the boy to breathe again; after a visit to the school nurse, Grayson returned to class later that same day; and WHEREAS, Joining the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in 2007, Mr. Coleman taught world cultures and history and coached football and basketball at Spillane Middle School until 2014, when he became assistant principal at Anthony Middle School; and WHEREAS, By swiftly and effectively responding to a dangerous situation, Blake Coleman saved the life of one of the students in his care, earning the heartfelt admiration of a grateful community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby commend Blake Coleman for saving the life of a student at Anthony Middle School and extend to him sincere best wishes for all the good fortune he so richly deserves; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Coleman as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
