5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |

6 | 7 | | memories of Edward William Kafer of San Angelo, who died on November |

7 | 8 | | 14, 2014, at the age of 97; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Edward Kafer was born in Hurnville on August 25, |
---|
9 | 10 | | 1917, to Karl and Anna Kafer; answering his nation's call to duty as |
---|
10 | 11 | | a young man, he served in the U.S. Army, transporting prisoners of |
---|
11 | 12 | | war from France by way of New York to Camp Chaffee in Arkansas |
---|
12 | 13 | | during the latter days of World War II; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of a long and varied career, |
---|
14 | 15 | | Mr. Kafer was a dryland farmer in several locations in Texas, a |
---|
15 | 16 | | stock farmer in Hamilton County, and a night shift corrections |
---|
16 | 17 | | officer for the Texas Youth Council in Gatesville for 15 years; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, After retiring from state employment, Mr. Kafer and |
---|
18 | 19 | | his wife, Willa Dene, owned and operated the Silver Spur restaurant |
---|
19 | 20 | | in Roby and then went on to work for the Fisher County Senior |
---|
20 | 21 | | Citizen Center, cooking and delivering meals to elderly patrons; |
---|
21 | 22 | | they later lived in Bronte before settling in San Angelo in 2002; |

23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, A keen outdoorsman and a Master Gardener, Mr. Kafer |

24 | 25 | | took special pleasure in annual hunting trips with his |

25 | 26 | | brothers-in-law, and he loved to share the bounty of his garden with |

26 | 27 | | family and friends; he also delighted in the time he spent with his |
---|
27 | 28 | | grandchildren, drinking Dr Pepper, enjoying ice cream on the front |
---|
28 | 29 | | porch, and playing football in the front yard even into his 80s; and |

29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Ed Kafer lived a full and generous life rich in the |

30 | 31 | | intangibles that matter most, and he will be long remembered with |

31 | 32 | | deep affection by all who knew him; now, therefore, be it |

32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
