45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
67 memories of Edward William Kafer of San Angelo, who died on November
78 14, 2014, at the age of 97; and
89 WHEREAS, Edward Kafer was born in Hurnville on August 25,
910 1917, to Karl and Anna Kafer; answering his nation's call to duty as
1011 a young man, he served in the U.S. Army, transporting prisoners of
1112 war from France by way of New York to Camp Chaffee in Arkansas
1213 during the latter days of World War II; and
1314 WHEREAS, Over the course of a long and varied career,
1415 Mr. Kafer was a dryland farmer in several locations in Texas, a
1516 stock farmer in Hamilton County, and a night shift corrections
1617 officer for the Texas Youth Council in Gatesville for 15 years; and
1718 WHEREAS, After retiring from state employment, Mr. Kafer and
1819 his wife, Willa Dene, owned and operated the Silver Spur restaurant
1920 in Roby and then went on to work for the Fisher County Senior
2021 Citizen Center, cooking and delivering meals to elderly patrons;
2122 they later lived in Bronte before settling in San Angelo in 2002;
2223 and
2324 WHEREAS, A keen outdoorsman and a Master Gardener, Mr. Kafer
2425 took special pleasure in annual hunting trips with his
2526 brothers-in-law, and he loved to share the bounty of his garden with
2627 family and friends; he also delighted in the time he spent with his
2728 grandchildren, drinking Dr Pepper, enjoying ice cream on the front
2829 porch, and playing football in the front yard even into his 80s; and
2930 WHEREAS, Ed Kafer lived a full and generous life rich in the
3031 intangibles that matter most, and he will be long remembered with
3132 deep affection by all who knew him; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Edward William
3435 Kafer and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones: to his wife
3536 of 62 years, Willa Dene Kafer; to his children, Gary Kafer and his
3637 wife, Mary, Judy Hurst and her husband, Paul, and Jim Bob Kafer and
3738 his wife, Becky; to his grandchildren, April Eagan and her husband,
3839 Scott, Michelle Ridenour and her husband, Curtis, Matt Hurst and
3940 his wife, Jessica, Kylen Kafer and his wife, Amanda, Clayton Kafer
4041 and his wife, Bailey, and Canyon Kafer; to his great-granddaughter,
4142 Aubrey Anna Ridenour; to his sisters, Rosemary Schaffner, Ruth
4243 Gardner, and Anna Lee Lewis; and to his other relatives and friends;
4344 and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4647 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edward
4748 William Kafer.
