| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, For 75 years, residents of San Marcos have come |

| 6 | 7 | | together to celebrate their faith at Westover Baptist Church; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The church's origins can be traced back to the |

| 8 | 9 | | summer of 1939, when students from San Marcos Baptist Academy held a |

| 9 | 10 | | two-week revival in the old Westover Schoolhouse; the school |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | building subsequently became home to Westover Baptist Church, which |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | was officially founded on March 31, 1940, by a group of 12 pastors |

| 12 | 13 | | from the San Marcos Baptist Association; in 1953, the church moved |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | across the street to a new sanctuary, built mainly by volunteer |

| 14 | 15 | | labor, and it has remained there ever since; and |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the members of Westover Baptist |

| 16 | 17 | | Church have established a variety of commendable programs that |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | foster fellowship and offer help to those in need, including a youth |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | ministry and a weekly horseback riding event called Rodeo 4 Jesus; |

| 19 | 20 | | the congregation has benefited from the able leadership of many |

| 20 | 21 | | dedicated clergymen, and today that tradition of excellence is |

| 21 | 22 | | continued by its current pastor, Jeff Latham; and |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Westover Baptist Church has long served as a source |

| 23 | 24 | | of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and its |

| 24 | 25 | | continued existence is a testament to the unwavering commitment of |

| 25 | 26 | | its members and clergy, both past and present; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of Westover |

| 28 | 29 | | Baptist Church and extend to its congregation sincere best wishes |
