| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Residents of El Paso County benefit each day from |

| 7 | 8 | | quality of life in their communities through the fulfillment of |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Jo Anne Bernal was appointed El Paso County attorney |

| 10 | 11 | | in 2009, becoming the first woman in the county's history to hold |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the position; since that time, she has worked to uphold the mission |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | of her office by providing high-quality legal services in an |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | ethical, professional, and capable manner; in addition to handling |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | complex litigation, she oversees more than 100 employees and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | manages an annual budget of $7.5 million; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Born and raised in El Paso, Ms. Bernal earned her |

| 17 | 18 | | law degree at The University of Texas at Austin and served with the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Texas Attorney General's Office for six years prior to joining the |

| 19 | 20 | | El Paso County Attorney's Office; she has been recognized for her |

| 20 | 21 | | many professional accomplishments with the Outstanding Lawyer of |

| 21 | 22 | | the Year Award from the Mexican-American Bar Association and the |

| 22 | 23 | | Outstanding Young Lawyer of El Paso Award from the El Paso Young |

| 23 | 24 | | Lawyers Association; she has also given back to the greater |

| 24 | 25 | | community by sharing her time with the Advocacy Center for the |

| 25 | 26 | | Children of El Paso, the Opportunity Center for the Homeless of El |

| 26 | 27 | | Paso, and the El Paso Women's Political Action Committee; and |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Jo Anne Bernal has demonstrated a steadfast |

| 28 | 29 | | commitment to making El Paso County an even better place in which to |

| 29 | 30 | | live and work, and in so doing, she has earned the deep respect and |

| 30 | 31 | | appreciation of her fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it |
