45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Residents of El Paso County benefit each day from
67 the contributions of those public servants who greatly improve the
78 quality of life in their communities through the fulfillment of
89 their duties; and
910 WHEREAS, Jo Anne Bernal was appointed El Paso County attorney
1011 in 2009, becoming the first woman in the county's history to hold
1112 the position; since that time, she has worked to uphold the mission
1213 of her office by providing high-quality legal services in an
1314 ethical, professional, and capable manner; in addition to handling
1415 complex litigation, she oversees more than 100 employees and
1516 manages an annual budget of $7.5 million; and
1617 WHEREAS, Born and raised in El Paso, Ms. Bernal earned her
1718 law degree at The University of Texas at Austin and served with the
1819 Texas Attorney General's Office for six years prior to joining the
1920 El Paso County Attorney's Office; she has been recognized for her
2021 many professional accomplishments with the Outstanding Lawyer of
2122 the Year Award from the Mexican-American Bar Association and the
2223 Outstanding Young Lawyer of El Paso Award from the El Paso Young
2324 Lawyers Association; she has also given back to the greater
2425 community by sharing her time with the Advocacy Center for the
2526 Children of El Paso, the Opportunity Center for the Homeless of El
2627 Paso, and the El Paso Women's Political Action Committee; and
2728 WHEREAS, Jo Anne Bernal has demonstrated a steadfast
2829 commitment to making El Paso County an even better place in which to
2930 live and work, and in so doing, she has earned the deep respect and
3031 appreciation of her fellow Texans; now, therefore, be it
3132 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3233 Legislature hereby honor El Paso County Attorney Jo Anne Bernal for
3334 her efforts in behalf of her community and extend to her sincere
3435 best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3536 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3637 prepared for Ms. Bernal as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3738 House of Representatives.
