5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Roger Garza is concluding his tenure on the |

6 | 7 | | Pleasanton City Council in 2015, after nearly two decades of |

7 | 8 | | exemplary service; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Even before joining the city council, Mr. Garza was |
---|
9 | 10 | | an active member of his community and launched a successful |
---|
10 | 11 | | campaign to redraw the district boundaries in Atascosa County; |
---|
11 | 12 | | achieving this goal inspired him to become more involved in |
---|
12 | 13 | | government, and he was subsequently elected to represent District 5 |
---|
13 | 14 | | on the Pleasanton City Council; over the course of his 18 years in |
---|
14 | 15 | | office, he has played a key role in a number of important |
---|
15 | 16 | | initiatives, including cleanup efforts for the Atascosa River, the |
---|
16 | 17 | | hiring of a firm to build a new fire station, and the planning, |
---|
17 | 18 | | design, and approval of civic center construction; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Atascosa County, Mr. Garza |
---|
19 | 20 | | attended Jourdanton Elementary School and continued his education |
---|
20 | 21 | | in the Pleasanton Independent School District; after graduating |
---|
21 | 22 | | from high school, he went on to study photography, oil painting, and |
---|
22 | 23 | | still-life portraiture at San Antonio College, and he later became |
---|
23 | 24 | | part of Pleasanton High School's inaugural adult computer class; in |
---|
24 | 25 | | October 1975, this dedicated entrepreneur opened his own business, |
---|
25 | 26 | | Pleasanton Floral Photography and Tuxedos, which he still operates |
---|
26 | 27 | | from its original location; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Garza enjoys the love |
---|
28 | 29 | | and support of his wife, Ann, and he takes great pride in their five |
---|
29 | 30 | | children; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Roger Garza has proven himself a civic leader of |
---|
31 | 32 | | great vision and ability, and he is indeed deserving of recognition |
---|
32 | 33 | | for his tireless efforts to make the Pleasanton area an even better |
---|
33 | 34 | | place to live and work; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby commend Roger Garza for his service on the |
---|
36 | 37 | | Pleasanton City Council and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
