5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Jeannie Meza-Chavez can take well-deserved |

7 | 8 | | of her community during her first nine months as superintendent of |

8 | 9 | | the Tornillo Independent School District; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Meza-Chavez's extensive experience includes |

10 | 11 | | service as a teacher, an assistant principal, a principal, a |
---|
11 | 12 | | student activities director, and a human resources director; she |
---|
12 | 13 | | began her career with Socorro ISD and went on to serve as principal |
---|
13 | 14 | | of the Young Women's Leadership Academy of San Antonio ISD; she then |
---|
14 | 15 | | worked as the director of Secondary Personnel and Recruiting for El |
---|
15 | 16 | | Paso ISD before becoming the superintendent of Tornillo ISD in |
---|
16 | 17 | | April 2014; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso, |

18 | 19 | | Dr. Meza-Chavez earned her teaching certification from UT San |
---|
19 | 20 | | Antonio and her master's degree in education from Sul Ross State |
---|
20 | 21 | | University; she holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction, |
---|
21 | 22 | | and her paper, "Technology Use of College Bound Seniors from a |
---|
22 | 23 | | Southwest Border Community," written in collaboration with |
---|
23 | 24 | | Dr. David Rutledge, was published in the Journal of Border |
---|
24 | 25 | | Educational Research; in 2005, she helped to found the Latinas |
---|
25 | 26 | | Triunfadoras Scholarship, which has awarded 44 scholarships to |
---|
26 | 27 | | students from her alma mater, Ysleta High School; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Through her unwavering commitment to Tornillo ISD |
---|
28 | 29 | | students and staff, Dr. Meza-Chavez has led the way in fostering a |

29 | 30 | | supportive and challenging educational environment, one that gives |
---|
30 | 31 | | students a vision of what they might attain if they strive for |
---|
31 | 32 | | success and that equips them with skills that will help them to |
---|
32 | 33 | | build fulfilling and productive lives; now, therefore, be it |

33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby honor Dr. Jeannie Meza-Chavez, superintendent |
