45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Dr. Jeannie Meza-Chavez can take well-deserved
67 pride in the outstanding service she has rendered to the residents
78 of her community during her first nine months as superintendent of
89 the Tornillo Independent School District; and
910 WHEREAS, Dr. Meza-Chavez's extensive experience includes
1011 service as a teacher, an assistant principal, a principal, a
1112 student activities director, and a human resources director; she
1213 began her career with Socorro ISD and went on to serve as principal
1314 of the Young Women's Leadership Academy of San Antonio ISD; she then
1415 worked as the director of Secondary Personnel and Recruiting for El
1516 Paso ISD before becoming the superintendent of Tornillo ISD in
1617 April 2014; and
1718 WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso,
1819 Dr. Meza-Chavez earned her teaching certification from UT San
1920 Antonio and her master's degree in education from Sul Ross State
2021 University; she holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction,
2122 and her paper, "Technology Use of College Bound Seniors from a
2223 Southwest Border Community," written in collaboration with
2324 Dr. David Rutledge, was published in the Journal of Border
2425 Educational Research; in 2005, she helped to found the Latinas
2526 Triunfadoras Scholarship, which has awarded 44 scholarships to
2627 students from her alma mater, Ysleta High School; and
2728 WHEREAS, Through her unwavering commitment to Tornillo ISD
2829 students and staff, Dr. Meza-Chavez has led the way in fostering a
2930 supportive and challenging educational environment, one that gives
3031 students a vision of what they might attain if they strive for
3132 success and that equips them with skills that will help them to
3233 build fulfilling and productive lives; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby honor Dr. Jeannie Meza-Chavez, superintendent
3536 of the Tornillo Independent School District, for her admirable
3637 service to her fellow citizens and extend to her sincere best wishes
3738 for the future; and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
