| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Friends and colleagues of Calvin Whittaker are |

| 6 | 7 | | gathering on March 20, 2015, to commemorate his retirement as chief |

| 7 | 8 | | maintenance engineer of Wilson Plaza in Corpus Christi, after three |

| 8 | 9 | | decades of outstanding service; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A native of the Cayman Islands, Mr. Whittaker became |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | an American citizen and went on to join the United States Merchant |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Marine; he sailed to ports all over the world during his enlistment, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | honing his skills while operating the machinery in the ship's |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | engine room; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Whittaker's experience led to his employment in |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | 1985 at Wilson Plaza, a historic office building recognized as the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | first skyscraper erected in Corpus Christi; in his position as |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | chief maintenance engineer, his responsibilities have included |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | overseeing the mechanical spaces housed in the facility's basement; |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | during his long tenure, he witnessed many changes as the building |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | was expanded and modernized to keep pace with the city's growth, and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | he enjoyed a special rapport with the tenants who relied on his |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | technical abilities and know-how; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Along the way, Mr. Whittaker has been blessed with |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | the love and support of a fine family that includes his wife, Betty |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Whittaker, and his children, Ricky Whittaker and his wife, Odell, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Micky Whittaker and his wife, Sally, and Geoffry Whittaker, as well |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | as his grandchildren, Chloe, Emma, Matthew, and Nicole; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, While tenants at Wilson Plaza will greatly miss the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | tireless dedication that Calvin Whittaker showed in keeping that |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | facility humming all these years, he leaves behind a worthy example |

| 31 | 32 | | for his successor to follow, and it is a great pleasure to join in |

| 32 | 33 | | honoring this esteemed citizen as he embarks on the next exciting |

| 33 | 34 | | chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
