 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The 4-H Youth Development Program has provided
 invaluable experience-based training for youth across the Lone Star
 State for 107 years; and
 WHEREAS, The Texas 4-H program can trace its roots back to
 1908, when agricultural agent Tom Marks organized the Jack County
 Corn Club, which taught local boys about the latest production
 technology; over the following years, there was a rapid expansion
 of educational programs directed to rural youth, including
 opportunities for girls in Milam County to gain insight on better
 cultivation and canning methods for homegrown tomatoes and for
 African American youth in Waller County to learn about vegetable
 gardening and raising poultry; and
 WHEREAS, Today, Texas 4-H claims a membership of more than
 65,000, with another 850,000 young Texans participating in 4-H
 programs at school or youth centers; members acquire life skills,
 develop strong character, and improve their readiness for the
 workplace and for college; each program promotes productive use of
 the four H's--Head, Heart, Hands, and Health--and supports the
 organization's motto, "to make the best better"; moreover,
 participants are encouraged to give back to their fellow citizens
 through volunteer projects to protect the environment, mentor
 younger children, and help the less fortunate; and
 WHEREAS, Administered by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension
 Service and the Prairie View A&M Cooperative Extension Program, 4-H
 is made possible through the dedicated efforts of numerous
 employees and over 56,000 trained volunteers; and
 WHEREAS, Throughout its proud history, the 4-H program has
 helped develop young Texans into role models by providing
 activities that build character and instill strong values, and the
 organization is indeed worthy of special legislative recognition;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize March 25, 2015, as 4-H Day at the State
 Capitol and extend to all those associated with the organization
 sincere best wishes for continued success.
