H.R. No. 1537 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Rafael Gomez has earned the great esteem of members of the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo community through his service as a tribal councilman; and WHEREAS, Elected to the Pueblo's governing body on December 31, 2012, Mr. Gomez held the traditional position of capitan for three years and has actively served the Tiwa Language Committee and the Tigua Community Garden; a board member of the Tigua Inc. Development Corporation, he is also a member of the tribe's Economic Development Advisory Committee and Higher Education Committee, as well as a supporter of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gomez is a graduate of Ysleta High School and a lifelong resident of the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Reservation; currently, he is employed as sweepstakes technician manager for the Speaking Rock Entertainment Center, a Tigua-owned business; and WHEREAS, Heir to a proud culture, Rafael Gomez is helping to preserve the vital traditions and values of the Pueblo while working to enhance the quality of life for its people, and he is indeed deserving of the trust that has been placed in him by members of his community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby honor Rafael Gomez for his service on the Tribal Council of Ysleta del Sur Pueblo and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Gomez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
