| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Representatives of the Texas City-La Marque Chamber |

| 6 | 7 | | of Commerce, the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce, and other |

| 7 | 8 | | proud residents of Galveston County are gathering in Austin on |

| 8 | 9 | | March 30, 2015, to celebrate Galveston County Day at the State |

| 9 | 10 | | Capitol; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Galveston County covers approximately 870 square |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | miles of lush grasslands, warm beaches, and sparkling waters; it is |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | an exceptionally vibrant region with a diverse economy and myriad |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | cultural and historic charms that present many opportunities for |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | citizens, businesses, and tourists alike; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The ports of Galveston and Texas City, as well as the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | county's chemical and petrochemical complex, provide jobs for many |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | in the area; agriculture, livestock, and the fishing and shrimping |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | industries also play important roles in enhancing economic |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | development; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Galveston is additionally a center for medical |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | services, marine research, and a variety of higher education |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | resources; it is home to The University of Texas Medical Branch, |

| 23 | 24 | | Texas A&M University at Galveston, the College of the Mainland, and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Galveston College; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, With nearly 400 miles of beaches, visitors are drawn |

| 26 | 27 | | to the county's natural beauty and also enjoy such attractions as |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo, the Galveston Island Wild |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Texas Shrimp Festival, and the Blessing of the Fleet at Kemah; other |

| 29 | 30 | | points of interest include the Lone Star Flight Museum, Moody |

| 30 | 31 | | Gardens, and the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier; and |

| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich past as they look forward to |

| 32 | 33 | | a bright future, the citizens of Galveston County may take great |

| 33 | 34 | | pride in their continuing contributions to the heritage and |

| 34 | 35 | | prosperity of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 30, 2015, as Galveston County |

| 37 | 38 | | Day at the State Capitol and pay tribute to the Galveston Regional |
