45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Representatives of the Texas City-La Marque Chamber
67 of Commerce, the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce, and other
78 proud residents of Galveston County are gathering in Austin on
89 March 30, 2015, to celebrate Galveston County Day at the State
910 Capitol; and
1011 WHEREAS, Galveston County covers approximately 870 square
1112 miles of lush grasslands, warm beaches, and sparkling waters; it is
1213 an exceptionally vibrant region with a diverse economy and myriad
1314 cultural and historic charms that present many opportunities for
1415 citizens, businesses, and tourists alike; and
1516 WHEREAS, The ports of Galveston and Texas City, as well as the
1617 county's chemical and petrochemical complex, provide jobs for many
1718 in the area; agriculture, livestock, and the fishing and shrimping
1819 industries also play important roles in enhancing economic
1920 development; and
2021 WHEREAS, Galveston is additionally a center for medical
2122 services, marine research, and a variety of higher education
2223 resources; it is home to The University of Texas Medical Branch,
2324 Texas A&M University at Galveston, the College of the Mainland, and
2425 Galveston College; and
2526 WHEREAS, With nearly 400 miles of beaches, visitors are drawn
2627 to the county's natural beauty and also enjoy such attractions as
2728 the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo, the Galveston Island Wild
2829 Texas Shrimp Festival, and the Blessing of the Fleet at Kemah; other
2930 points of interest include the Lone Star Flight Museum, Moody
3031 Gardens, and the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier; and
3132 WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich past as they look forward to
3233 a bright future, the citizens of Galveston County may take great
3334 pride in their continuing contributions to the heritage and
3435 prosperity of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby recognize March 30, 2015, as Galveston County
3738 Day at the State Capitol and pay tribute to the Galveston Regional
3839 Chamber of Commerce and the Texas City-La Marque Chamber of
3940 Commerce for their contributions to their region and this state;
4041 and, be it further
4142 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
4243 for the chambers as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
4344 of Representatives.
