45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Officer David Martinez of the Brookshire Police
67 Department demonstrated great composure and courage on February 7,
78 2015, when he thwarted a bank robbery in progress; and
89 WHEREAS, A two-year veteran of the police department, Officer
910 Martinez was off duty working as a security guard at First Services
1011 Credit Union that afternoon when a man wearing a disguise and
1112 brandishing a handgun came into the lobby and forced everyone,
1213 including Officer Martinez, to lie down on the floor; and
1314 WHEREAS, The suspect took the officer's weapon, forced a
1415 teller to give him cash, and fled the building; Officer Martinez
1516 retrieved his backup weapon and, at considerable risk to himself,
1617 followed the man; during a confrontation in the parking lot,
1718 Officer Martinez shot the suspect; and
1819 WHEREAS, Officer Martinez's quick and decisive actions
1920 helped to avert what could have been an even greater tragedy, and he
2021 is truly deserving of special recognition for his bravery and
2122 dedication to protecting the public; now, therefore, be it
2223 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
2324 Legislature hereby commend Officer David Martinez of the Brookshire
2425 Police Department for his heroism and extend to him sincere best
2526 wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it
2627 further
2728 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2829 prepared for Officer Martinez as an expression of high regard by the
2930 Texas House of Representatives.
