| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Javier Loera has served the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, In his role as war captain, one of two traditional |

| 8 | 9 | | lifetime positions with the tribal council, Mr. Loera has oversight |

| 9 | 10 | | of planning for days of observance and hunts, as well as all other |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | traditional activities; he is acknowledged as a spiritual leader, |

| 11 | 12 | | and he has taken a lead role in the restoration of the Pueblo's |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | language, Tigua; in addition, he is guiding the construction of a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | traditional kiva; and |

| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Loera served on the council as first captain |

| 15 | 16 | | from 2002-2008; he is employed by the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo as the |

| 16 | 17 | | tribal historic preservation officer, and he works diligently to |

| 17 | 18 | | promote and protect cultural resources and manage all related |

| 18 | 19 | | matters; in addition, he consults with federal and state agencies |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | regarding historic preservation and cultural resources; |

| 20 | 21 | | previously, he managed the Tigua Indian Cultural Center and Museum; |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In his leisure, Mr. Loera devotes himself to |

| 23 | 24 | | traditional arts, and he creates pottery and beadwork; moreover, he |

| 24 | 25 | | was a key participant in a group that produced vibrant murals of |

| 25 | 26 | | Tiguan imagery in the tribe's ceremonial building, the Tuh-Lah, and |

| 26 | 27 | | the Ysleta Mission; and |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Javier Loera has demonstrated a deep commitment to |

| 28 | 29 | | preserving the Tigua way of life, and his endeavors have helped |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | ensure that future generations can continue to be enriched by this |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | magnificent heritage; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor Javier Loera for his service as war |
