| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, An extraordinarily delicate procedure, the |

| 9 | 10 | | separation took months of preparation; the twins, Knatalye and |

| 10 | 11 | | Adeline Mata, shared several organ systems when they were born |

| 11 | 12 | | prematurely in April 2014, and they were cared for in the hospital's |

| 12 | 13 | | Level IV neonatal intensive care unit; in advance of the surgery, 3D |

| 13 | 14 | | models of skeletons, blood vessels, and organs were created and the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | staff conducted a five-hour simulation; and |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, On the morning of the surgery, the team of over 30 |

| 16 | 17 | | highly skilled professionals included 8 nurses, 6 |

| 17 | 18 | | anesthesiologists, and 12 surgeons; among the specialists were |

| 18 | 19 | | experts in pediatric surgery, liver transplant surgery, orthopedic |

| 19 | 20 | | surgery, cardiovascular surgery, urology, pediatric gynecology, |

| 20 | 21 | | and plastic surgery; the complex procedure took 26 hours, |

| 21 | 22 | | encompassing 18 hours for the initial separation and additional |

| 22 | 23 | | time to ensure that each twin will be able to lead a healthy, |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, This remarkable surgery was the first such procedure |

| 25 | 26 | | in Houston in nearly two decades, and the members of this |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | outstanding surgical team are to be commended for their tremendous |

| 27 | 28 | | accomplishment in making the impossible possible for two little |

| 28 | 29 | | girls and their family; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
