H.R. No. 1584 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Continuing a notable tradition of athletic excellence, the girls' basketball team from Nazareth High School won the University Interscholastic League 1A state championship on March 7, 2015, at the Alamodome in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, The victory in the finals of the state tournament capped a remarkable season in which the Swiftettes finished with an impressive overall record of 34 wins and just 2 defeats and claimed their second consecutive state crown; moreover, this marked the school's 20th title since 1977, and Nazareth now holds the national record for the most state championships by a public high school; and WHEREAS, The Swiftettes powered through the postseason with commanding wins over McLean, Turkey Valley, Spur, and Follett High Schools to earn a trip to the state tournament; there, they dominated the squad from D'Hanis High School by a score of 61-18 to clinch a berth in the 1A title game, where they easily defeated Lipan High School, 56-40, to hoist the trophy once again; and WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, the Swiftettes received significant contributions from each member of the roster: Payton Robb, Abby Schmucker, Tarah Hill, Allie Schulte, Mackenzie Gerber, Kelsey Espenson, Deborah VanDijk, Aubrie Durbin, Paige Gerber, Hannah Leavitt, Carlie Heiman, and Ellen Schilderink; these dedicated players were ably guided by head coach Eric Schilling and assistant coaches Morgan Moore and William Raphelt, with additional help from managers Blakely Gerber, Cambrie Heiman, Hallie Kleman, and April Schmucker, statistician Kamryn Schulte, and trainer Mitchell Brockman; and WHEREAS, With this latest championship achievement, the Nazareth High players have furthered their school's reputation as a true basketball powerhouse, and each team member will forever cherish her memories of this exceptional season; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Nazareth High School girls' basketball team on winning the UIL 1A state title and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
