| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Baylor University was established February 1, 1845, |

| 9 | 10 | | by an act of the Congress of the Republic of Texas; it is the oldest |

| 10 | 11 | | continually operating university in the state; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, This private Christian university and nationally |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | ranked research institution provides a vibrant campus community to |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | more than 15,000 students; it offers 141 undergraduate degrees, 75 |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | graduate degrees, 37 doctoral degrees, and a juris doctor in |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | addition to a wide array of preprofessional tracks and specialized |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | academic opportunities; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Baylor University is also home to a variety of |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | exceptional athletic programs; its football team recently won the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | school's first outright conference championship since 1980, and the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | women's basketball team continued its dominance with its fourth |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | consecutive sweep of regular-season and conference tournament |
|---|

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The university produced the top graduate success |

| 24 | 25 | | rate score in the Big 12 Conference in the 2013-2014 academic year; |

| 25 | 26 | | a school-record 213 Baylor University student-athletes were |

| 26 | 27 | | selected to Academic All-Big 12 teams, and a school-record 678 |

| 27 | 28 | | students were named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The school's interdisciplinary research and a |

| 29 | 30 | | faculty committed to teaching and scholarship have served to create |

| 30 | 31 | | an institution with an international reputation for educational |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | excellence; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
