| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Brooke Demars, an eighth-grader at Frank Black |

| 7 | 8 | | Spelling Bee Championships on February 28, 2015, in Houston; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The goal of the African American National Spelling |

| 9 | 10 | | Bee Championships is to improve the spelling skills of African |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | American middle school students, which in turn helps them to raise |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | their reading level and expand their vocabulary; by preparing for |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | the spelling bee, young people develop confidence and discipline, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | traits that are necessary to excel academically; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Students from across Houston competed in two rounds |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | of spelling bees for the opportunity to go to the main event; after |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | advancing through the regional competition, Brooke Demars took |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | first place at the national championships; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, This notable young Texan has distinguished herself |

| 19 | 20 | | with her hard work, determination, and poise under pressure, and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | she may indeed look forward to a future that is bright with promise; |
