45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Brooke Demars, an eighth-grader at Frank Black
67 Middle School in Houston, won the African American National
78 Spelling Bee Championships on February 28, 2015, in Houston; and
89 WHEREAS, The goal of the African American National Spelling
910 Bee Championships is to improve the spelling skills of African
1011 American middle school students, which in turn helps them to raise
1112 their reading level and expand their vocabulary; by preparing for
1213 the spelling bee, young people develop confidence and discipline,
1314 traits that are necessary to excel academically; and
1415 WHEREAS, Students from across Houston competed in two rounds
1516 of spelling bees for the opportunity to go to the main event; after
1617 advancing through the regional competition, Brooke Demars took
1718 first place at the national championships; and
1819 WHEREAS, This notable young Texan has distinguished herself
1920 with her hard work, determination, and poise under pressure, and
2021 she may indeed look forward to a future that is bright with promise;
2122 now, therefore, be it
2223 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
2324 Legislature hereby congratulate Brooke Demars on winning the
2425 African American National Spelling Bee Championships and extend to
2526 her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and,
2627 be it further
2728 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2829 prepared for Brooke Demars as an expression of high regard by the
2930 Texas House of Representatives.
