45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Zion Wren, a student at WALIPP-TSU Preparatory
67 Academy in Houston, won third-place honors at the African American
78 National Spelling Bee Championships on February 28, 2015, in
89 Houston; and
910 WHEREAS, The goal of the African American National Spelling
1011 Bee Championships is to improve the spelling skills of African
1112 American middle school students, which in turn helps them to raise
1213 their reading level and expand their vocabulary; by preparing for
1314 the spelling bee, young people develop confidence and discipline,
1415 traits that are necessary to excel academically; and
1516 WHEREAS, Students from across Houston competed in two rounds
1617 of spelling bees for the opportunity to go to the main event; after
1718 advancing through the regional competition, Zion Wren came in at
1819 third place at the national championships; and
1920 WHEREAS, This notable young Texan has distinguished himself
2021 with his hard work, determination, and poise under pressure, and he
2122 may indeed look forward to a future that is bright with promise;
2223 now, therefore, be it
2324 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
2425 Legislature hereby congratulate Zion Wren on placing third at the
2526 African American National Spelling Bee Championships and extend to
2627 him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and,
2728 be it further
2829 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2930 prepared for Zion Wren as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3031 House of Representatives.
