| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of the South Texas Youth Congress are |

| 6 | 7 | | gathering at the State Capitol April 7-9, 2015; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The South Texas Youth Congress is sponsored by the |

| 8 | 9 | | Dream Forward Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to |

| 9 | 10 | | creating programs that encourage civic participation; elected by |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | fellow students from high schools in 14 South Texas counties, the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | members of STYC focus on developing public policy ideas and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | proposals for legislative action to benefit their communities; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, For the 84th Texas Legislature, the organization's |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | initiatives include a plan entitled Southern Opportunities onLine, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | which is intended to provide residents of South Texas with improved |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | academic resources and other benefits; the proposal advocates the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | establishment of a law school in the Rio Grande Valley, calls for |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | improved access to live video-based college courses throughout the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | region, and recommends the installation of fiber optic connections |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | to expand the reach and efficiency of schools and public services; |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, By involving themselves in the legislative process |

| 23 | 24 | | and working to enhance the quality of life for their fellow |

| 24 | 25 | | citizens, members of the South Texas Youth Congress have set an |

| 25 | 26 | | example of leadership to which other young Texans may aspire; now, |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby honor the South Texas Youth Congress for its |

| 29 | 30 | | dedicated efforts and extend a warm welcome to its members during |

| 30 | 31 | | their visit to the State Capitol; and, be it further |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 32 | 33 | | prepared for the South Texas Youth Congress as an expression of high |
