| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month is being observed |

| 6 | 7 | | in June 2015; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Rare and often misdiagnosed, myasthenia gravis is an |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | autoimmune, neuromuscular disease that causes weakness in the |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | voluntary muscle groups; MG can affect anyone, no matter their |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | race, gender, or age, and although it is controllable by medication |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and other treatments, it can be fatal; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America is a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | nonprofit organization formed in 1952; it has a network of chapters |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | throughout the country whose mission is to facilitate the timely |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | diagnosis and optimal care of individuals affected by this disease; |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | the MGFA also works to improve lives through programs of public |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | information, medical research, professional education, advocacy, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | and patient services and care; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Approximately 70,000 Americans are living with MG, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | and Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month offers a time to learn more |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | about this disease and to focus on the need for further education, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | treatment, and research in the hope of ultimately finding a cure; |

| 23 | 24 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 24 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Legislature hereby recognize June 2015 as Myasthenia Gravis |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Awareness Month and encourage all Texans to get involved in the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | effort to call attention to this serious issue. |
