7 | 8 | | 1953, and his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A 21-year-old who had recently been sworn in as an |

9 | 10 | | officer, Roy Smith was responding to a call when he was involved in |

10 | 11 | | a tragic vehicle collision; he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean |

11 | 12 | | War, and at the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, |

12 | 13 | | Laverne, and his daughter, Gail; and |
---|
13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |

14 | 15 | | courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |

15 | 16 | | Officer Smith, who willingly place themselves in harm's way each |

16 | 17 | | day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow citizens; |
